UAE End of Service Gratuity Calculator
Based on UAE Labour Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021)
This is an estimate for general information only. It uses basic salary only (not allowances) and your final entitlement depends on your contract and company records. Check with your employer or the MOHRE for official confirmation.
What Is End of Service Gratuity in the UAE?
End of service gratuity is a lump-sum payment that your employer in the UAE pays you when your job ends. It rewards your years of service and uses your basic salary only (not housing, transport or other allowances). To qualify, you generally need at least one year of continuous service.
How Does the UAE Gratuity Calculator Work?
Under the UAE Labour Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021), your gratuity depends on your last basic salary and your length of service:
- First 5 years: 21 days of basic wage for each year of service
- After 5 years: 30 days of basic wage for each additional year
- Partial years count proportionally
- Maximum: the total cannot exceed 2 years of your total wage
- Unpaid leave days do not count as service
Divide your monthly basic salary by 30 to get your daily wage.
UAE Gratuity Calculator Examples
Example 1: Basic salary AED 5,000, service 3 years.
Daily wage = 5,000 / 30 = AED 166.67
Gratuity = 3 x 21 x 166.67 = AED 10,500
Example 2: Basic salary AED 6,000, service 8 years.
Daily wage = 6,000 / 30 = AED 200
First 5 years = 5 x 21 x 200 = AED 21,000
Next 3 years = 3 x 30 x 200 = AED 18,000
Gratuity = AED 39,000
UAE Gratuity Calculator FAQs
Do I get gratuity if I resign?
In general, yes. If you have completed at least one year of service, you are usually entitled to gratuity whether you resign or your contract ends. In some serious misconduct cases, an employer may be able to withhold it, so check your contract and the law.
Is gratuity calculated on basic salary or total salary?
The calculator uses your basic salary only. Allowances such as housing, transport and phone do not count, unless your contract clearly says otherwise.
How long does the employer have to pay gratuity?
Your employer should settle final dues, including gratuity, shortly after your contract ends, usually within 14 days. If you face delays, contact MOHRE.
Is there a minimum service period?
Yes. You need at least one year of continuous service. With less than one year, you do not receive gratuity under the standard rules.
Do free zones follow the same rules?
Not always. Some free zones, such as DIFC and ADGM, have their own employment rules or savings schemes. Check your free zone authority and your contract.
